Zhu De’s Mauser M1896 Pistol used during Nanchang Uprising

The Germany-made Mauser M1896 police pistol was used by Zhu De during the Nanchang Uprising, after which he carved “souvenir of Nanchang Uprising, for Zhu De” on it. In 1927, Zhu De came to Nanchang to form the training regiment of the Third Corps of the National Revolutionary Army; in April, he also became director of Nanchang Public Security Bureau; on August 1, he led the training regiment to join the Nanchang Uprising. After that Zhu De became deputy commander of the Ninth Corps of the National Revolutionary Army, and led the remaining uprising troops to join with the troops of the Autumn Harvest Uprising led by Mao Zedong, which were reorganized into the Fourth Corps of the Revolutionary Army of Workers and Peasants.
The pistol was collected by the PLA Political Academy from Zhu De in 1956 and transferred to the Military Museum in 1959.
