Slogan of Religious Freedom Released during the Long March
Date: 1936 Size: length: 71cm; width: 40cm; thickness: 3cm Material: wood, paper
To foil the pursuit and interception by the KMT army, the Fourth Front Army launched the Kangding-Daofu-Luhuo battle in March 1936. It occupied Daofu, Luhuo and Ganzi, reached the Non-aggression Treaty with the Dege Tusi (chieftain of an ethnic group), helped the Tibetans form the people’s government, and spread the CPC’s policy of religious freedom and respecting the ethnic minorities’ right of autonomy. This wooden slogan reading “allowing religious freedom, exercising the right of autonomy for ethnic minorities, and protecting their interests” was written by the Fourth Front Army to promote the policy when it was stationed in Daofu. It was collected and transferred by the Kangding Sub-command of Chengdu Military Command to the Military Museum in 1959.
