The Only Mountain Cannon Brought to Shaanbei by the Red Army after the Long March

Date: April 1935    Length: 105 centimeters    Caliber: 75 millimeters    Material: Steel

In April 1935, the Sixth Corps of the Red Army led by Xiao Ke eliminated the KMT’s No.58 Division, No.174 Brigade and the Mountain Cannon Brigade and seized two mountain cannons near Taozixi, Sangzhi, Hunan province. It is one of the two. The cannon was manufactured by Shanghai Ordnance Factory in 1927 and originally called “7.5cm-caliber cannon.” The cannon was later given to the Artillery Battalion of the Red Army. It played an important role in the battles the Artillery Battalion participated in. It was brought by the Red Army commanders to the north of Shaanxi and became the only mountain cannon that had gone through the Long March.

It was transferred in 1959 from Kunming Military Command to the Military Museum.
