“Wang Keqin Platoon” Silk Banner

This is a silk banner presented by the headquarters of the East Sichuan Military Command, which reads, “To all the comrades of the Wang Keqin Platoon, keep the glorious title, and let Wang Keqin live forever among us. Presented by the political department of the command of East Sichuan Military Command.” The banner features Wang Keqin’s portrait inlaid with color brocade on the right. This banner is a tribute to Wang Keqin, a famous hero who killed many enemies and made a lot of contributions for the people, as well as the honor of the Wang Keqin Platoon. Wang Keqin (1920-1947), a native of Fuyang, Anhui province, was once captured by the KMT to be a soldier. He got free in October 1945. After joining the PLA, he quickly grew into an excellent soldier. Since June 1946, he left 232 enemies shot or wounded, captured four enemies, seized eight rifles and gained distinction for nine times. He was honored as “the first-class hero of killing enemies” and “an exemplary CPC member.” When serving as the squad leader, he creatively organized interactive activities to help improve the squad members’ thinking, techniques and life skills. In October 1946, he led the squad to participate in the battle and accomplished the mission, suffering no casualty. After the battle the squad was recorded with the first-class merit, and Wang Keqin was promoted to be the platoon leader. Wang Keqin was taken as a role model in the follow-up Wang Keqin Movement carried out in the whole army. Wang Keqin died in the Battle of Dingtao in July 1947. His platoon was titled the Wang Keqin Platoon.
In 1959, it was transferred by the political office of the 100th regiment of the 34th division of the 12th army to the Military Museum.
