The Pendant Watch: A Witness to the Stringent Discipline of “Luoyang Battalion”

In March 1948, in the battle of liberating Luoyang, the 1st battalion of the 23rd regiment of the 8th division of the 3rd column of the East China Field Army blew up two city gates in succession and entered the city. The third company of the battalion relied on a small building to fight fiercely against the KMT garrison. This company and another two companies provided mutual support for each other in fighting against the enemy. This pendant watch was left behind on the table by the house owner. In the battle the third company officers frequently went in and out of the building, but no one touched the watch. After the battle, the 1st battalion was titled the Luoyang Battalion in recognition of its brave fighting and significant contribution to winning the battle. The owner of the building was quite moved. In 1959, Guo Baoan donated the watch to the Military Museum.
