It is a Soviet-made Type-123 motor torpedo boat, with a serial number of 158. Since the second half of 1954, the “Taiping” Frigate, a capital ship of the KMT Navy, often made harassing attacks on the coastal areas in Southeast China. In order to give a lesson to the KMT Navy, the People’s Navy was determined to sink the “Taiping” Frigate. On November 1, six motor torpedo boats of the 31st Battalion of the People’s Navy went to the sea to look for an opportunity for combat and found the frigate eventually on the early morning of November 14. Then four motor torpedo boats with serial numbers of 155, 156, 157 and 158 came into formation and attacked the frigate, and the No. 158 motor torpedo boat successfully hit the bow of the frigate, which sunk eventually after six hours.
