The Hand-Cranked Computer at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center

This hand-cranked computer produced by Tianjin Red Star Factory was used for computing related data about the launch of missiles and satellites at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The Center was established in 1965 and the missile test base at that time was responsible for its construction. The Center consists of the technical zone, the launch area, the command and control center, the monitoring and control station, and the technical support service and management departments. It is among the world’s leading spacecraft launch sites. On April 24, 1970, China’s first man-made satellite “Dongfanghong-I” was launched at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
In 2000, it was transferred to the Military Museum by Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
