The Last Words Written on a Military Satchel by a Soldier Participating in Earthquake Relief

At 14:28 on May 12, 2008, a massive earthquake measuring 8.0 Richter scale hit Wenchuan county, Sichuan province. After the earthquake, the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission immediately made deployments, and the people’s army lost no time to rush to the disaster-hit area for rescue and relief. These are the last words written on the military satchel by Chen Shengjun, a soldier of the former Jinan Military Command who participated in the earthquake relief.
The note reads,
“Father and Mother,
The May 12th earthquake took the lives of a lot of innocent people including many parents. Although our family was also affected by the disaster, I hate to see even more people lose their parents. Mom and Dad, I have grown up. I want to rush into the ruins to save more people and bring them the hope of life. Mom and Dad, if I should stay there forever, you must not be sad; instead you shall be proud of your son. When the earthquake-hit area is being reconstructed, please come to see me, but do not mind where I stay!
Your beloved son: Shengjun
