In 2016, China’s peacekeepers to Mali and South Sudan, Shen Liangliang, Li Lei and Yang Shupeng, were killed in the attack while carrying out peacekeeping missions. On May 24, 2017, the UN headquarters held a memorial ceremony in honor of the peacekeepers who died for peace and posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjőld Medal to those peacekeepers, including Shen Liangliang, Li Lei and Yang Shupeng.
